About Me

Hey there, I'm Beatrice, if this wasn't obvious! I'm , I have been living in Ireland for over 10 years, and my life's passion is all things IT. This website was one of my first big projects, and what this is is essentially a blog, along with a couple of other bits and bobs to expand on my web development knowledge. I don't plan on being a web developer - it's not that interesting - but I like having as many skills as possible, since you never know when somebody will ask me to implement dark mode onto their website! So, hence my blogposts updating you on what I'm up to (updated rarely), and some random bits and bobs like a BMI calculator (because why not?) and a dark mode toggle (because we don't exactly like light these days) :D

I am interested in many things - rowing, maths, science, motorsport, all that fun stuff. However programming is the interest that dominates! Currently I am doing a mix of everything, just trying to get a better understanding of the practical uses of programming, as well as skills I could actually use in my job in the future. Competitive programming (abbreviated as CP) is one of my main interests, while I am still in school, because it's fun! It's fun, and I am continuously training my brain to solve problems more effectively, so what's not to like? I have competed in EGOI twice since 2024, and I will be competing again in May 2026, which is very exciting! The experience was always a big thing for me, so I can't wait to see what Italy has to offer!

In general though, I plan to study computer science here in Ireland, hopefully Cork, since I know and love my city more than any place in the world. I thought I might go for data science in the future, but honestly, I think right now is too soon to decide. I like a lot of things in IT - the idea of machine learning, even though I am not familiar with it yet; cybersecurity; networking; occasional web-development; I want to explore lots of different fields honestly, so it's best to keep things as open as possible! I love learning about how things work and how we can use computers to solve problems, so as long as I get to do this in my job, I honestly am not so strict as to what field I end up in! As long as it's not web development of course - that's just boring.

Now, let's get onto the big question; why IT? Well, I got inspired by my father. He was interested in IT for ages, since he was a child, so he kept that interest going by doing simple things like disassembling things in his house. Since then, he's pretty much a know-it-all when it comes to this kind of stuff. He also managed to make interesting projects, so that led me to think; I could be like him too! Since that single thought, I've tried to dip my fingers into many different areas. I've built a couple of hardware-based projects, but I much prefer software... I think it's just more fun for me to type and think for hours rather than try wiring things correctly - I'm not built for electrical engineering folks! But yeah, I've worked on a few web-based projects (e.g. this website!), some personal automations and apps to make my own life easier, and the hardware projects include messing around with Arduino and ESP boards - but that was EONS ago, so I'm not so sure how my skills are with that right now. But do have a look around! If you want to have a chat, then please do contact me :D
